GREETINGS. Long time. I truly apologies for not posting.
Pool of ideas ran dry but I have some ideas moving forward. Also university got
very serious very quickly and I got a bit caught out but recovered. Anyway on
to something I wish to have a bit of a discussion about. That would be my writer’s
guild.
On the 25th of September 2015 we celebrated our
first anniversary. It has been a really drawn out year. However the members and
support from interested parties has kept us going. Not to mention rapid
expansion. Thinking back its been an amazing journey. Without making an epic
out of only the first chapter, the idea was to gather my creative friends,
share and learn from each other. the end goal in mind is for all of us to get
something published, where that be poems, short stories, novels and to get
music and art work recognised. Yes, I said music. In recent months some of our members
have decided to share their music. Seeing as song lyrics are poetry, we didn’t see
any reason not to push this within the group.
What does the job entail?
Doing my job as head of the guild has been very difficult.
Internal politics have a way of sucking the fun out of something that is there
to be fun. But what is the past has passed. My primary role was initially to
set the foundations and expectations (not many expectations honestly), than
delegate roles according to who I could trust was able to do so. I have my own
projects so I wanted to avoid having no time due to running the guild. The most
important job is prudent planning. I have planning projections for the next few
years. I plan to stick to them loosely at least.
Between recruiting people (which was handled by another
person) and motivating people to keep up moral, there was not much else for me
to do.
Now what have we being
over the last year? Simple answer, much more than I expected.
We have to date, 31 members with quite a few supporters. We
have started putting together an anthology of poetry which is still in the
works. We have completed our first Group short story “mystery Noir” back in February
I believe. The next one is already underway (hopefully should be finished by
the same time next year) and lastly we have decided on our first official logo.
I say first, as time will tell if it will remain.
It does not sound like much really but with the scope of
what we are doing, how many there are of us, internal politics, school and
work, and lastly independent projects it is far more than I dreamed of.
Moving forward:
With the notion and intention of FOT being a business of
sorts in the future there are many things that I and our members desire to do. But
before that we must formalize our structure. That is underway. Next is getting
our work in the public eye, which some of us have been doing as individuals. The
target for this year has not changed. Building up our ranks and getting
networking in place is still priority one. But also coming together to share
our ideas and work. The main reason for the Guild in the first place.
I plan to use my Blog as a way of updating interested
parties of our progress.
The next post will be on the process of writing a group project. which should be fun. going to bring in some extra help with that one.
